The importance of ISO 45001:2018Companies looking to get certified to the new ISO 45001 standard for occupational health and safety from an accredited body can now do so, following the decision by UKAS to award global accreditation to Bureau Veritas.

The decision makes Bureau Veritas among the first certification bodies to gain global accreditation, enabling it to support clients worldwide to achieve meaningful improvements in their approach to occupational health and safety management.

The accreditation followed a thorough review by UKAS of Bureau Veritas Certification’s systems and demonstrates the certification body’s technical competence. As such, companies certified to ISO 45001:2018 by Bureau Veritas will benefit from the guarantee of quality that the UKAS global accreditation provides.

The ISO 45001:2018 standard replaces the OHSAS 18001 standard. Companies have three years to migrate to the new standard, but the new emphasis on risk management in ISO 45001 makes it wise to start soon. Companies who get certified ahead of their competitors also gain two important benefits: they demonstrate to both clients and employees that they are leaders, and they are able to address risks proactively and comprehensively, thanks to the new High-Level Structure common to all ISO standards for quality, health & safety and environmental management.

In addition to being among the first bodies to offer certification, Bureau Veritas is offering clients with a comprehensive range of services.

A set of free technical documents providing guidance on the standards and their requisites are available through the website lead.bureauveritas.com.
